I was expecting a nice commercial gesture after all the inconvenience caused, instead they asked for proof of calls from BT and mobile phone companies !!!! The choices available were to stick with the gravity fed system (f&e + cold tank) or get rid of all the cylinder/tanks and install a combi boiler with mains pressure and all that it entails. As our previous system had all been installed within the flat the water pressure was non-existent for showering and very poor at any of the taps. So I decided to rip out the old system and have a combi installed saving vital space in the bathroom with the removal of the cylinder and tanks. With several quotes including British Gas (the highest - no surprise) I went with KP Heating & Plumbing. The quote was as competitive as others but I felt this company could do the work correctly and I was not wrong. Kai turned up on the day we had booked and on time. He had everything with him and got to work straight away. We had the system power flushed, new thermostatic radiator valves and lockshields, two radiators removed and a new one fitted (and no leaks). The boiler fitted was a Vaillant 831 Plus with a Honeywell CM927 wireless programmable thermostat (suggested by Kai and a very good bit of kit) all fitted perfectly with very neat pipework considering the tight space. With the new gas regulations a gas supply pipe of 22mm was needed and lucky for me there was one fitted 30 years ago buried in the adjacent wall, which had been feeding the old boiler but that was only discovered by Kai because he took the time to find out so no new pipe needed from the gas meter.
