The other day the pilot light went out so I called the gas man round. He replaced the Thermocouple and the pilot light now comes on and stays on. The problem is that when doing this he noticed that when the button is pushed to ignite the pilot light it does not just allow gas to flow to the pilot light but also to the main burners if the boiler is switched on, i.e. if the main burners would normally be lit, so thermostat on.
