Hello Rick. We have an ideal icos boiler that started leaking from the bottom. It then stopped working, showing an FL error message. We had an engineer out who opened it up, unblocked the s trap which was full of grey gunk, and cleared grey deposit out of the tray behind the sump cover. He then eventually managed to fire it up again. He suggested the seal has gone around the sump cover, but said it may now reseal itself (which we didn't really understand). He then said if it leaks again we could look at using gunk to reseal it. This was yesterday. It is now running, but has started leaking again. It only leaks when the boiler is actively heating water. We are hesitant to call him out again as to be honest we just didn't feel we trusted him. It's proving very difficult to get a decent plumber here (north devon) and have had a few bad experiences. Serious problem for us to replace the boiler (for which he is quoting $2000), so just hoping you might have some thoughts about the situation and whether it might be repairable. Thanks in advance.
